Who wants to try a widget without installing it ?
Well, here is the solution:

  1. Download the Widget that you want to try out.
  2. Then, when the widget is asking to install, press on  + ALT
  3. The "Install" bouton changes to "Execute".

If you reboot or close it, the widget won't be installed in the library and won't be launched again.

Burn your images without duplication

Apr. 11th, 2007 12:52 by Permalink | TrackBack: http://en.boursomac.com/trackback/427 | del.icio.us logoDel.icio.us — exists for 5 years & a month ago — Rate: - MacWorld.

There exists two simple solutions to burn images onto a CD/DVD: first off, with iPhoto built-in option, secondly, with the use of a "burn folder", from within the Finder.

The latter has the disavantage to require the duplication of files on your hard drive that you do during the drag'n' drop operation. This waste of disk place is useless.

There exists an alternate solution: during the drag'n'drop operation, prior to release the mouse button, keep pressing COMMAND+OPTIONS. Then release the button.

Finder will create files alliases rather than create duplicated files! Here we go. During the burning stage, you'll notice nothing different when compared with the duplication method. You'll save time and disk space.

3D performances boost for Leopard

Apr. 11th, 2007 01:11 by Permalink | TrackBack: http://en.boursomac.com/trackback/407 | del.icio.us logoDel.icio.us — exists for 5 years & a month ago — Rate: - Thinksecret.

ThinkSecret reveals a team of Apple is actively working on a 3D and video code replacement for MAC OS X Leopard.

A brand new architecture along with a new API will replace the long-living -- and rather old actually -- existing code.

The team focusing on the video part is an additionnal team from those of QuickTime in order to get the maximum perfomance possible from the technology.

The 3D team, in turn, would have already got slightly improved performance with OpenGL so that ThinkSecret's source would have tell them that performances are now far better on Leopard than on a PC with similar components.

At the time of writing, no builds of Leopard released to developers, was containing such technology improvement; but sources said that the final version of Leorpard will have it.

Wow....

Reset dashboard

If you need to reset dashboard -- that is, close and re-launch it -- you'll be surprised to see that no command exists in MAC OS X to perform the operation.

If you have a look at the dock, right-click on dashboard icon, you won't find the "Quit" command.

Hopefully, there exists a "trick' that makes use of the terminal application:

  1. Open Terminal: Dock|Application|Terminal
  2. At the prompt, type: killall Dock and press ENTER key Note: there is no blank between Kill et all

As a result, you'll see dashboard disapearing and re-launch in a snap.

iBook: Reset the Power Manager

Apr. 10th, 2007 23:29 by Permalink | TrackBack: http://en.boursomac.com/trackback/404 | del.icio.us logoDel.icio.us — updated on Apr. 13th, 2007 13:39 exists for 5 years & a month ago — Rate:

Sometimes, though rarely, your iBook does not respond anymore: among the multiple reasons tha may cause this, there is one that's hard to fix: the power manger.

Symptoms are as follows:

  • The light remains lit even though you withdraw the battery pack from the computer.
  • It is simply impossible to restart the iBook, even though you keep the power button pressed more than 10 secs.
  • If you plug the power unit to the computer, it does not chage anymore. The level indicator of the battery is green whatever the actual level is.

In this situation, press on SHIFT + CTRL + ALT + POWER to reset the "power manager" to fix the issue. Your iBook should restart.
