iPhone 2.x.x: firmware jailbroken by PwnageTool 2.0.1

DevTeam finally released the new version of PwnageTool 2.0.1 - it jailbreaks and unlocks older iPhones, and jailbreaks iPhone 3Gs and iPod Touches. This version only support the 2.0 firmwares.

This latest version fixes a number of issues found in the PwnageTool 2.0.0 yesterday's release.

We currently test it on 2 iPhones 4G and 8G currently in firmware 1.1.4; we keep you updated.

Some personal notes:

1) First off, you need iTunes 7.7
2) Download the firmware 2 via iTunes when it prompts you to upgrade; click on download only.
3) Download the two bootloaders here it will be unzipped automatically.
4) Launch PwnedTool and select "Simple mode"
5) Click on the device you're interested in -- in our case it is iPhone
6) Click next, it should find the correct ipsw automatically -- if not, you probably did not download the new firmware with iTunes
7) Select this firmware and click next
8) This process will prompt you to select boot loaders one after one. Do select them from the folder created earlier
9) Once boot loaders are selected, the process continues; it takes a rather long time to build the final ipsw -- so be patient, never break the process
10) Finally, you'll be prompted to make your device enters in DTU mode; please follow the instruction carefully. If you missed something, just redo it when prompted.

If you're not unlucky today, the tool just says "your device successfully entered in DTU mode"; now, simply quit Pwaned Tool.

The last step consist in upgrading your device with iTunes this time.

When iTunes recognizes your device being in DTU mode, it prompts you to restore it. Click on the restore button while holding the ALT key. Select te firmware ipsw file that lies on your desktop and let iTunes makes its upgrade process. This takes a long time to completes -- I didn't measure how much but many minutes.

So don't stress too much, leave it alone for a while and you'll end up with a iPhone running firmware 2; note that the Apple logo will be replaced by an pineapple logo. Two automatic extra steps will be performed by Pwaned itself that doesn't require your attention; just leave it alone again.
